House of Reflection

House of reflection is spatial manifestation of relations that are perceived in community ring. By using those relations it is created series of reflection, which are consisted of national history, tradition, heritage and people. Those reflections are not necessarily visual only, but audio, verbal, and sensual as well.

:area 1 is designed as new fort around fortress, with culture and education as only means of defending. Although different in functions they represent unique and uniform structure. The form is designed as geometrical landscape, continually opened to the external fortress wall.

:area 2 represents a house of reflections. beside requested functions, house of reflection has it’s own goal to point out and present heritage, history, users, events,… By using different means to evocate personal and borrowed memories. All mentioned above, create a perception of space, perception that is created of audio, visual and verbal reflections.

:audio sound installation with the purpose to evoke memories with sounds that are familiar to users, such as sound of revolution, march, war, that can be heard in hallways of the fortress, on the paths that are used as communication only… as well as Rome, public transport, local music etc. that can be heard in lobbies, open spaces, working pods…

:visual using mirror as a way to point out details and events in the area 2. That way we are able to see things that are in front of us, as well as those behind on a slightly different way.

:verbal it represents reflection of user’s thoughts into spoken language. Communication is observed as type of reflection that can only happen beetween users in any given time and place.

It is located in front of main entrance and represents fortresses in community ring. Fortresses are pictured as glowing columns, that stands for “lighthouse” of culture and heritage. The crack in the pavement represents Tiber, the flow and the influence of modernity on tradition.

It is located on the east side of area 1, on the previous place of senior center. this modern structure is connected and opened to the fort with activities, like multipurpose room, indoor/outdoor pool etc. it is designed as series of not strictly defined spaces and it is left to the oldest citizens to
give them a full purpose. lobby is designed as place where shopping exhibitions can take place, exhibiting and selling what seniors created.

It is located on the place of previous kindergarten. The building is longitudinal, orientated mostly toward the fort. Playgrounds are located behind the building, because of privacy of the children. Link/bridge/ is created between the kindergarten and the fort, therefore kids can use part of the fort’s slope as playscape.

Located on the south side of the fort in area 1, it can be accessed only from square in via portuense street. it represent a shellter for people that in new age defends and take care of an old heritage. it is designed as longitudinal structure, completely opened to the surrounding. with main activities, it is orientated toward fortress.

Located on the west side of area 1, on the crossing of via portuense and dell’imbrecciato. it represents heart of the local community, and the center of activity for locals. it is opened toward newly designed square on the one side and attached to a fort’s external wall. this creates a special ambient in multipurpose/meeting/fitness spaces, that community center consist of. this center represents a link of local community to it’s heritage as well as it connects them with present and therefore with future.
